- All day at the immigration office
- A mad lady
- Dinner at Diann's
- Literacy night and being deaf
- Missionary discussion on the phone.
Today we had pretty much one goal and that was to get a passport for Marlika Papius. It is a good thing that was our only goal because that is about how we got done today.
We were to meet her down at the immigration office between 10:00 and 11:00 to get her passport updated. She has one but it expires in 5 months and they have some goofy requirement that requires you to have a passport that's good for at least 6 months from the time you are leaving the country. She missed it by one month.
So we got down there and first off we got in the wrong line so that took a little time. We finally got in the right line and then it took about 30 to 40 minutes to get to the front of the line. Once we got there and got up to the booth to renew the passport, they told us that since she was renewing her passport before her old one expired. They had to get a special form and take it to the Justice of the piece and get it notarized. So we went and got the form and filled it out and went outside and up the road to where the JP was sitting and for 20 bucks they notarized it. We went back in and got in line and it turned out that we were supposed to go back to the same booth and talk to the guy that told us to go get the extra paper notarized. So she went up to the front of the line which didn't make people too happy. And she finally got to talk to the guy in the booth but now it was a different guy. Anyway, because she was renewing her passport before it expired, which I've already stated they are now charging an extra $50 for that. It was ridiculous. But we finally got the paperwork submitted. Then we went to pay and when we got in line a security guard came out and said that the cashier had to take a 1-hour lunch break. I guess they require it.
There was a lady who had been there and had to leave to get more paperwork like we did and came back and was at the front of the line to pay for her passport. When the security guard came out and shut everything down. She was hot. She tore into that security guard and said that she should be able to pay for her passport before the lady goes to lunch. The security guard was not going to band and would not let her pay. The lady closed her window and went to lunch. Meanwhile the lady that was almost to the pay booth was still madder than heck. She was yelling at the security guard and giving him the what for. He just stood there and didn't say anything. Everybody else had backed away from the lady as they didn't want to be associated with her and the room was very quiet. The security guard finally left and since we couldn't pay right then we told Marlika That we would take her home back and pay so she didn't have to wait so long. She fell which I told about before and it was hard for her to stand. So we took her home and went back to the immigration office to pay after it had opened back up. Well of course there was a big line there with everybody that had to wait was back. We finally got done about 4:00 and have been there since 10:30 or so.
Tonight we were having our new missionary dinner at Diane's home. They always do a fun thing with the new missionaries and she cooks up chicken's feet which are pretty gross. Thinking about it and looking at them but they taste okay. Anyway. It's always fun and that's where we went. After leaving the immigration office. We had to pick up Elder Nehemia and Elder Madsen. The dinner was fun! And surprisingly the two missionaries. Elder Madsen and Sister Takapu gobbled them down like they were candy.
After the dinner we went over to the church to do literacy night. Also all of the Young women and young men or at least some of them as they plan for the FSY trip.
One embarrassing thing happened to me tonight. My hearing is terrible and so I really have to concentrate when people talk, especially the St. Lucians. They are difficult to understand even with the best, ears. Anyway, Noah was asking about haviana and if we were making any headway with her going. I totally didn't get what he was talking about even after asking him twice and thought he was talking about award clerk. So I started answering him about that and either wait a minute wait a minute. You didn't hear what I said. He knows I have bad hearing and then he explained it again. It was in front of everybody so it was kind of embarrassing. I need to do something about finding some hearing aids and see if that will help.
Another interesting thing that happened was the missionaries. Were doing a discussion over the phone with one of our investigators named Kelly. It was interesting because he had one phone talking to Kelly and then he had his companions phone looking up scriptures and other quotes to give to Kelly. Anyway, they had an opening prayer toddle lesson and a closing prayer all over the phone.
