- Visit out to Desmond Jules
- Dinner at president De'Beauville
This morning we got up and did our usual stuff. We decided we were going to go find a member that was baptized not too long ago. Desmond Jules. He used to live in town but he lost his apartment and now he lives down south somewhere in the middle of the island. We had a pin of where he was located so we put it into Google maps and headed out. After a few wrong terms and up a dirt road up into the mountains we were driving by a house and there was a guy and a girl out washing clothes. They were washing you and buckets. Anyway, I didn't recognize him at first, but after looking closer I realized it was Desmond.
We got out and had a good visit. He showed us his place and the different things he's growing around there. He has an orange tree, but it's not the oranges we get in the United States. When they're right, they're yellow. He has a lemon tree and they are green when they're right and kind of prickly looking. He gave us a breadfruit out of a tree. He has next to his house, two oranges and two lemons and he cut us a piece of cinnamon off a cinnamon tree. He gave us some Roots from plants he has around his place. One was a ginger root. And the other Turmeric.
Kind of a funny thing happened as we were going to his house. We passed a little shop and there were a bunch of people around and a pig on a leash. He was there like he was part of the family. After visiting with Desmond and driving back by the pig was now laying on a table by the road. All skinned out. So apparently he wasn't that close in the family. I wrote down my window and made a comment about him and they were all excited. Invited us to stay and eat but we said we had to keep going.
This evening we were invited with all the other missionaries and a missionary Dallon Hunt who served here a year or so ago and was here for almost a year on his mission. Anyway, they were having a get-together over at President De'Beauvilles home. It was one of the nicest evenings we've had out with friends since we've been here. Felt kind of like a get together back home. Sister Karen Kennedy came along with Feria Joseph who were people that were friends to Elder hunt when he was here. In fact he might have baptized Feria.
The meal was some type of soup that had salt fish, plantain, dumplings and spinach and beans in it. It was a little different but edible.
